At the Helen L. and Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion, one of NYU Langone’s inpatient care facilities, we’ve created a healing environment for adults, children, and families that includes integrated technology, thoughtful design, and single-patient rooms.
Our top priority is the comfort and safety of our patients. All of the 374 patient rooms are single bedded, which reduces the risk of infection, speeds healing, and provides more privacy for you and your family. In addition, each room has a sleeper couch or chair to accommodate a family member or friend, with your permission.
Our acute care services at Kimmel Pavilion include general and subspecialty surgical services, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, hematology, bone marrow transplant, and solid organ transplant services. We also have intensive care and step-down units for cardiology, neuroscience, and surgery; 30 operating rooms and image-guided labs; and 4 procedural rooms.
Care for children is provided on several floors dedicated to Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street, which has a Children’s Hall, Family Resource Center, and private entrance and elevators.
In recognition of our top-quality care, we have received the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, advanced certification in ventricular assist device for advanced heart failure from The Joint Commission, and Magnet® recognition for excellence in nursing for the fourth consecutive time by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Kimmel Pavilion is one of the most digitally integrated and sophisticated inpatient facilities in the country, designed to maximize the level of care for each patient.
In our operating rooms, high-definition conferencing screens allow our surgeons to communicate and collaborate with other specialists during complex procedures. Our digital medication drawers ensure the efficient and safe distribution of medicine during your stay.

Read Our Inpatient Stay GuideBefore arrival, patients can complete the registration process electronically and receive step-by-step instructions for the day of a visit via mobile phone. Each patient room features MyWall, a 75-inch electronic display screen with a touch screen tablet at the bedside, giving patients easy access to view educational materials related to care, watch TV and movies, communicate with loved ones through the phone or Skype, order meals, and adjust room temperature, lighting, and window shades.
The combination of these features is intended to help keep patients and families actively engaged in the healing process, and make the journey to recovery as easy as possible.
Kimmel Pavilion was designed to be as open and filled with light as possible. The goal was to bring the outside world in, through our roof terrace and gardens, as a way to improve the wellness of our patients and their families and enhance the quality of their experience.
From views of the East River and the New York City skyline to the carefully curated artwork to the calming outdoor spaces, everything around you is meant to promote healing and comfort.
As a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum-certified building by the U.S. Green Building Council, Kimmel Pavilion also incorporates environmental strategies such as ensuring our furniture and cleaning products are free of chemicals of concern, enhancing our indoor air quality through high levels of filtration and fresh air sensors, and insulating exterior walls to reduce noise pollution while reducing energy use.
Our social workers and care managers help make your transition from the hospital a seamless experience.
