At our flagship inpatient location, we provide the most advanced care designed around the needs of children and families.
As the newest children’s hospital in New York City, Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street was designed with the needs of children and families in mind. Our pediatric specialists provide the most advanced inpatient and outpatient care for children who have rare and complex conditions, as well as more common childhood illnesses.
Our goal is to help you and your child feel welcome, supported, and at ease from the moment you walk through our doors.
At Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street, located within NYU Langone’s Kimmel Pavilion, all of our 68 patient rooms are single-bedded. Single rooms promote your child’s safety by reducing the risk of infection. They also give you and your family more privacy, as well as a sleeping space for one parent.
Each room features MyWall, a 75-inch electronic display screen with a touch screen tablet at the bedside, giving children and parents easy access to information and entertainment, including a PlayStation loaded with dozens of games. With MyWall, you can view the members of your child’s care team, educational materials related to care, and daily goals suggested by the care team to assist in recovery. To increase comfort during the hospital stay, you and your child can also use MyWall to order meals, watch TV and movies, use the internet, call or Skype with loved ones or teachers for schoolwork, and adjust room temperature, lighting, and window shades.
The combination of these features is intended to help keep children and families actively engaged in the healing process and make the journey to recovery as easy as possible.
Our specialized services for children include the following:
Children having surgery at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street are cared for in our state-of-the-art perioperative unit. We have individual preparation and recovery rooms for each child, and parents are welcome to stay at the bedside as they prepare for surgery and during recovery.
With a replica of Lady Liberty made entirely of LEGO bricks that greets families in the lobby and New York City–themed artwork on every floor, Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street is a welcoming place for children and parents alike.
Parents told us that they craved sunlight and fresh air while staying in the hospital with their children, so we designed an outdoor Children’s Terrace, which includes a roof garden with a view of the Empire State Building.
In our Children’s Hall, we host events such as family movie nights, theater and music performances, and yoga and relaxation groups for parents. We have dedicated areas for children of all ages, including a Teen Room, a Multisensory Playroom, an Expressive Arts Room, and the Skyline Studio, our broadcasting hub where children can create their own multimedia productions.
Families have access to many amenities, including laundry facilities, a shower facility, a lactation and massage therapy room, a snack center, and computer work stations in our Family Resource Center.
In designing Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street, we wanted to create an environment where children can be children and parents can feel supported.
