At NYU Langone Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, we are experts in assisting women from throughout the New York metropolitan area as they prepare for and experience pregnancy. We help to deliver thousands of healthy babies each year and are the first medical center nationwide to be accredited by The Joint Commission in the very best practices for perinatal patient care and safety.
Our obstetricians and gynecologists work with you to customize your pregnancy care and labor and delivery plans. We help you determine your goals for pregnancy, early labor, pain control, delivery, and breastfeeding, and then support you along your journey.
Our doctors are experts in vaginal, cesarean, and vaginal birth after cesarean, or VBAC, deliveries. We offer “gentle cesarean,” a family-centered approach to this type of delivery that allows for mother and baby bonding during and after the birth. This method employs both solid and clear drapes that are interchanged at the moment of birth to allow mothers to see their babies. Electrocardiogram, or EKG, leads are placed on the mother’s back instead of her chest, and one arm is kept free from IVs and pulse monitoring to allow for skin-to-skin mother and baby bonding soon after cesarean delivery.
The World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund accredited NYU Langone as a Baby Friendly Hospital, recognizing our dedication to breastfeeding education and support and mother–baby bonding.
To further encourage bonding, newborn babies are able to stay with their mothers at all times, if a mother so chooses, leaving only for certain medical procedures or tests with special equipment located in the nursery. Our pediatricians perform neonatal examinations and testing, such as hearing tests, at the mother’s bedside. Partners are permitted and encouraged to stay in the mother’s room, spending the night on comfortable reclining chairs.
NYU Langone has a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week visiting policy, making it easy to share this joyful time with family and friends.
Our experts—including doctors, a nurse practitioner, registered nurses, childbirth instructors, and lactation counselors—are committed to providing valuable childbirth education as you plan for this exciting, life-changing event.
NYU Langone is among the few hospitals in New York City to offer an active Parent Education Program for new and expecting parents, supplying birthing, breastfeeding, and baby care information, as well as classes for fathers and siblings. Our Ready, Set, Baby! information session teaches you all you need to know about having a baby at NYU Langone.
