I experienced the compassionate, personalized care of a midwife after the birth of my second child. It was a profound event, inspiring my own journey into midwifery.

For more than two decades, I’ve embraced the true essence of being a midwife, which means “with woman.” This has allowed me to learn from women, listening to their stories and experiences as I support them through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. These women come from diverse backgrounds and from around the world, teaching me invaluable lessons in cultural competence and equity.

As NYU Langone Health’s inaugural director of midwifery services at Tisch Hospital, I oversee our team of Manhattan midwives and collaborate with our peers at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. My mission is to offer holistic, evidence-based care, nurturing women through one of life’s most significant experiences. I strive to empower them, ensuring they feel supported, informed, and cherished every step of the way.

We support women with a range of services, from preconception counseling and prenatal care through childbirth and postpartum care. We also provide well-woman gynecologic, contraception, and primary care from adolescence to menopause.

Every woman who is pregnant deserves a midwife, someone who will stand by her side through every step of this transformative journey. Our midwifery providers, who collaborate with our team of obstetrician–gynecologists, embody this approach. My goal is to provide a midwifery care model for every woman seeking this form of care and to introduce the model to those seeking alternative options, such as first-time mothers or mothers seeking care after a cesarean birth.

Being a midwife has given me an incredible opportunity to not only provide care but to make a difference, build relationships, empower women, and celebrate life. It is my privilege to be a part of the journey of every woman and family that I care for. For many of them, I have become their long-term provider for their subsequent children, and for their friends’ children.
