NYU Langone doctors are experts in treating babies born prematurely—before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Whenever possible, our specialists delay labor in expectant mothers using medical treatment and, when necessary, surgery.
Our doctors check for signs of preterm labor during every prenatal visit using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology right in the office. Our obstetricians and pediatricians collaborate on tailoring care for mothers and babies, including women carrying more than one baby and other challenging pregnancies.
NYU Langone offers advanced care for babies born before 37 weeks into pregnancy in our Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) at Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. Babies that need the most advanced prenatal and newborn care are delivered at Tisch Hospital, where we have a Level IV NICU—the highest designation assigned by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
We are also certified by The Joint Commission for advanced perinatal care services. This recognizes our commitment to providing mothers and babies with safe, high-quality healthcare.
Doctors at NYU Langone assess your risk of preterm labor and take steps to prevent it. If preterm labor occurs, our doctors help you to recover fully and provide intensive medical care to your newborn.
