NYU Winthrop Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient medical care to adults and children throughout NYU Langone's network of Long Island healthcare facilities.
Formerly known as Winthrop-University Hospital, NYU Winthrop Hospital is a 591-bed medical center located in Mineola. Our doctors represent nearly every specialty and subspecialty of medicine and surgery. At our Level 1 Trauma Center, we provide the highest level of care to adults and children who have serious or life-threatening injuries. The trauma center is part of our Department of Emergency Medicine and is verified by the American College of Surgeons.
NYU Winthrop is home to one of the premier cardiac programs in the region, and we have one of the top transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) centers in the country. A leader in diabetes treatment and education, NYU Winthrop was the first major teaching hospital in New York State to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for our advanced inpatient diabetes care. NYU Winthrop’s main campus also includes an on-site dialysis center and the Cancer Center for Kids.
Our CyberKnife® Center, which provides noninvasive treatment for cancers of the prostate, breast, brain, spine, and soft tissues, was the first of its kind in the New York metro area and, with facilities in both Mineola, Long Island, and Manhattan, is now the largest CyberKnife® Center in the United States.
Our Breast Health Center was the first in Nassau County to be certified by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. It is also the first on Long Island to be named a Hidden Scar™ Center of Excellence in recognition of our expertise in providing advanced breast cancer surgery that removes cancerous tissue but limits visible scarring.
In addition to services at our main campus, NYU Winthrop has multiple outpatient sites. This includes an ambulatory surgery center in Garden City for same-day medical procedures and a second CyberKnife® Center in Manhattan. Maternal–fetal medicine experts at NYU Winthrop Hospital also treat women experiencing high-risk and complicated pregnancies at NYU Langone Huntington Medical Group.
NYU Winthrop Hospital is also home to NYU Long Island School of Medicine, which offers a three-year medical education program for those who want to pursue careers in the fields of primary care, family medicine, pediatrics, or obstetrics and gynecology.
NYU Winthrop has received national recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program®—the highest commendation that a hospital can earn in this area. In recognition of our commitment to supporting breastfeeding mothers, NYU Winthrop has received a Baby Friendly® designation by Baby-Friendly USA.
