The Emergency Department at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, staffed by doctors from the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine, specializes in immediate medical treatment for serious injuries and conditions, including traumatic injury, stroke, and cardiac events such as heart attack.

We treat people of all ages. Our pediatric specialists, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, care for children in a child-friendly area of the emergency department.

Imaging services, including MRI, ultrasound, and CT scan, are available on-site and around the clock. We also provide emergency care for behavioral health concerns.

If a patient needs additional inpatient care or surgery after his or her critical care needs have been met, additional treatment is provided at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. Rehabilitation care is also provided through Rusk Rehabilitation.

Level 1 Trauma Center

The Emergency Department at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is the entry point for our Level 1 Trauma Center. Our trauma team provides advanced, expert care to people who have experienced a car accident, fall, work-related incident, or other major injury. Trauma and critical care surgeons are on-site 24 hours a day to care for the most serious injuries, including those to the head and spine.

We are accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Trauma Center. In addition, our department is certified by The Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and recognized by the New York City Fire Department as a Cardiac Receiving Center.

Our medical team also works to advance education and research in the field of emergency medicine.
