COVID-19 Update
Our doctors are available for in-person appointments. If you have questions about whether an office appointment or video visit is the best option for you, please call your doctor’s office.
Learn More About Our Safety MeasuresWe also provide COVID-19 diagnostic testing for children. This includes a rapid COVID-19 test, also known as an antigen test, that provides results within 20 minutes and is available at NYU Langone pediatric care locations.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms—including fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell—you can schedule a video visit with your NYU Langone doctor to discuss your symptoms and receive a COVID-19 diagnostic test. You can also schedule a Virtual Urgent Care visit to have one of our care providers order the test for you.
After you complete your visit, your doctor orders the test, and you can then schedule at one of our testing centers through your NYU Langone Health MyChart account or by calling 646-987-3525. Our testing centers are located at Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, and at select outpatient locations in Queens and Long Island. Please schedule an appointment in order to be tested. Walk-ins are not accepted.
Our labs use real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology to diagnose COVID-19. During the test, a clinician uses a nasal swab to take a fluid sample from deep inside your nose. PCR testing detects viral genetic material if it is present in your sample. Results are available within one to two business days in your NYU Langone Health MyChart account, or by calling your doctor’s office.
An antibody test can determine if you have previously been infected with COVID-19. The test is conducted by drawing a small amount of blood, which is then analyzed for the presence of antibodies—specific proteins that are made by the immune system.
Experts don’t yet know enough about COVID-19 to understand whether having antibodies means a person is immune to the virus, or for how long they may be immune. Not having antibodies does not mean a person was never infected or exposed to the virus. An antibody test can help you to know if you may have been infected in the past, and the results also help doctors and researchers to understand how prevalent COVID-19 infections may be in people who did not have symptoms.
To request antibody testing, please contact your doctor’s office or see one of our providers through Virtual Urgent Care. After your doctor orders the test, you can have your blood drawn on-site at your doctor’s office or at one of our labs, which are located at Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island. To schedule an appointment at our labs, please call 646-987-3527. We cannot accept walk-ins for testing.
At NYU Langone, we use the Abbott Architect antibody test. Test results are available through your NYU Langone Health MyChart account, usually within one to two business days.
