placenta accreta / percreta / increta, morbidly adherent placenta, cesarean scar pregnancy, higher order repeat C-section, saline infusion sonohysterogram after C-section, usefulness and validity of dictated reports of C-section, documentation and video-recording of cesarean deliveries, C-section related maternal morbidity, hemorrhage and mortality, impact of individual surgeon specific C-section techniques on short and long term maternal outcomes

Research Summary

One surgical technique during cesarean section (C-section) was validated over 30 years and reviewed to evaluate the incidence of C-section related Placenta accreta/percreta/increta(PA), currently referred to as Morbidly adherent placenta(MAP). The data will examine the outcome of subsequent deliveries after a previous C-section and help to understand the specific relationship of the C-section number to PA and/or MAP, i.e. its numerical relevance. The study will focus the investigation on the incidence of PA/MAP in 3 repeat C-section or more. This will help to clarify the relative importance of surgical technique and of the C- section number in the pathophysiology of PA/MAP. Studies are also underway to video-record the technique during C-section. This may offer a more objective mean of documenting, storing and sharing of C-section operations as compared to dictated operative reports.
