The Gastrointestinal Cancer Center works with our clinicians and researchers to assure the best possible outcomes and quality of life for every person undergoing treatment. Our team approach results in an unparalleled patient-care experience.
Here’s what you can expect:
Our specialists in medical oncology, surgical oncology, gastroenterology, hepatology, radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology work together to create comprehensive treatment plans tailored to your needs.
From initial consultations to follow-up appointments, our collaborative approach ensures smooth transitions between care providers, ensuring accessible care.
Experts with the Center for Molecular Oncology, part of Perlmutter Cancer Center, profile each GI cancer to match people with the most effective treatment, tailored to their individual needs. Our team of oncologists also conducts posttreatment monitoring to quickly detect and treat any cancer recurrence.
In addition, members of the GI team are developing new, minimally invasive biomarkers to detect GI cancers at an early stage and predict their response to treatment. This will improve how we choose treatments for each patient.
We actively recruit for research studies and clinical trials to develop new diagnostic tools and treatments. Your doctor can help you decide if a clinical trial is right for you. If you need assistance finding a study or have questions about our trials, you may reach us through our contact form.
We are committed to addressing GI conditions before they become cancer, along with early diagnosis and lifestyle interventions. Doctors at our Pancreatic Disease Program, for example, perform advanced endoscopic and surgical procedures to prevent precancerous cysts from progressing to cancer. Similarly, our Liver Tumor Program team aggressively treats benign liver tumors at high risk of becoming malignant.
Our team is committed to identifying GI cancers and precancerous GI conditions as early as possible to ensure better treatment outcomes. When GI cancer is suspected, or if you are at an elevated risk of developing such a cancer, your primary care doctor or gastroenterologist can help you schedule appropriate testing.
In addition, our Risk Evaluation, Assessment, and Care for Hereditary (REACH) Cancer Surveillance Program offers ongoing screening for people at higher risk of developing various cancers due to inherited genetic changes.
From diagnosis through survivorship, Perlmutter Cancer Center offers services to help people who are dealing with GI cancers and related conditions.
