Fertility Options for LGBTQ+ Families at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York
At NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York, we provide fertility options for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning (LGBTQ+) community.
There are an array of options for people who identify as LGBTQ+ to start a family, including in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination. We can also connect you with donor egg and donor sperm, as well as a gestational surrogate if needed.
For couples where both people have a uterus, we offer partner IVF, also called reciprocal IVF. During this procedure, one partner’s egg is combined with donor sperm in our embryology lab. The resulting embryo is then placed in the other partner’s uterus. This allows one person to have a genetic link to the child, while the other has a gestational link. We also offer intrauterine insemination into one partner’s uterus during ovulation using donor sperm. This procedure does not require IVF. Often, couples can use the same sperm donor to have a shared genetic link amongst their children.
For couples where neither partner has a uterus, we can connect you with donor eggs and a gestational surrogate. Using IVF, sperm from one or both partners is combined in a lab with donor eggs. The resulting embryo is placed in the surrogate’s uterus or cryopreserved for future use.
We can also create embryos using any combination of donor or patient egg or sperm, using a patient’s uterus or a gestational surrogate. We develop a path to pregnancy that works best for you and your partner, and that is most likely to help you start or grow your family.
