The physicians, nurse practitioners, and nutritionists at NYU Langone Nephrology Associates work together to help patients manage the treatment, side effects, and causes of kidney conditions, including chronic kidney disease, electrolyte disorders, high blood pressure (hypertension), acute kidney injury, glomerulonephritis, proteinuria, and nephrotic syndrome, as well as all congenital (genetic) kidney conditions.

Our clinicians are experts in treating kidney disease, a chronic disease that affects roughly 15 percent of Americans. The most common causes of kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure. However, because people with kidney disease often don't have symptoms, the condition is often detected only by blood work.

Members of this location’s Center for Chronic Kidney Disease Care, led by Michal L. Melamed, MD, also include Samara Kandelshein, NP; Jennifer S. Scherer, MD; and Emily Johnston, MPH, PhD. The team uses the newest research findings to improve treatment and our overall understanding of the condition. We also offer patients interdisciplinary care and access to the latest treatments through enrollment in research studies when suitable. We work closely with transplant nephrologists, vascular surgeons and other physicians to help patients with advanced kidney disease obtain timely care. We also offer 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring to help manage advanced hypertension.
