At the Emergency Department at NYU Winthrop Hospital, we provide advanced medical care for people experiencing serious illness and injury, including heart attack, stroke, and infections that require immediate treatment.

Each year, we provide care for more than 87,000 people. Our doctors are board-certified in emergency medicine and supported by experienced physician assistants and nurse practitioners. In our main emergency department, we provide the full scope of general patient care as well as advanced treatments in our critical care and resuscitation unit.

For Emergencies

If you or a loved one is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

For people with less serious illness or injuries, we have a dedicated fast-track area where they can receive examinations, X-rays and other imaging tests, and treatment for a variety of common conditions and injuries, including fractures and lacerations.

In our pediatric emergency department, board-certified pediatric emergency doctors are available around the clock and provide care for more than 18,000 children each year.

In addition, we are an American College of Surgeons–verified Level 1 Trauma Center with full adult and pediatric capabilities. Our surgeons are board-certified in trauma and critical care surgery. We treat injuries ranging from moderate to life threatening, including falls, head injuries, fractures, and trauma resulting from motor vehicle accidents. Our 6-bed trauma unit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by a trauma surgeon and a dedicated team.

Inpatient care is provided at NYU Winthrop Hospital, where our doctors are experienced in nearly every specialty and subspecialty of medicine and surgery.
