Depression is often a chronic condition that must be managed throughout a lifetime. Experts at NYU Langone Psychiatry Associates and our Mood Disorders Consultation Service offer ongoing care for people with depression.
NYU Langone psychiatrists monitor your use of medication for depression to ensure that the dose is correct and it’s being used as intended. They recognize that what works for one person may not work for another, and they address any concerns you may have.
You may be asked to meet with your psychiatrist once per month or bimonthly to discuss any side effects and review how well the medication is working.
Some adults with depression may benefit by participating in a clinical trial, in which doctors study new and experimental treatments. These research studies are required for U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of new therapies.
NYU Langone doctors participate in a research program dedicated to investigating new diagnostic methods and medications that may prove helpful in managing depression. You and your doctor can discuss whether joining a trial would benefit you.
