NYU Langone is home to one of the few comprehensive dry eye service centers in the United States. We provide timely, coordinated, and compassionate care for dry eye disease, offering a one-stop shop for patients to access expert care, advanced diagnostics, and tailored treatment plans from our multidisciplinary team.
Our team of ophthalmologists treat a wide range of dry eye conditions, including the following:
Our service begins with an initial consultation with Mina Massaro, MD, director of the dry eye service at NYU Langone Eye Center. During this consultation, Dr. Massaro conducts a comprehensive surface disease exam, identifies the type and severity of dry eye, and provides an immediate treatment plan.
We offer coordinated care with contact lens specialists, optometrists, and ocular plastic surgeons. Our expertise also allows us to fast-track diagnosis and treatment with over-the-counter products available on-site.
Treatment for dry eye disease may include lifestyle modifications, medications, or minimally invasive procedures. We offer unique tools and services to treat dry eye, including Vital Tears, eye drops made to more closely match patients’ own tears.
After the initial consultation with Dr. Massaro, we can connect you to other NYU Langone specialists, including those in rheumatology, dermatology, psychiatry, allergy, or pain management, to advance your care. We also work with you to support insurance authorizations for advanced dry eye therapies and ensure access to certain treatments, regardless of financial circumstances, through a philanthropic initiative.
Our ocular surface research informs our approach to patient care. Ophthalmologists at the NYU Langone Eye Center are conducting research to characterize types of dry eye disease using advanced technology. Learn more about our research.
