Doctors at NYU Langone Sleep Medicine Associates—Garden City are experts at diagnosing and treating sleep disorders in children and adults. Our program was the first in Nassau County to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and our multidisciplinary team includes sleep technologists, all of whom are registered polysomnographic technologists, the highest certification available.
We are also dedicated to sleep disorders research and education. Our Sleep Medicine Fellowship, part of NYU Long Island School of Medicine, was one of the first programs of its kind to be developed in the United States.
Our sleep medicine doctors diagnose sleep disorders using a comprehensive physical examination, a sleep interview questionnaire, and, if necessary, an overnight sleep study. The interview takes about an hour, and it’s helpful if you can bring someone who is familiar with your sleep behavior including sounds, movements, and other activities that may disturb your sleep. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
We conduct sleep studies in our state-of-the-art sleep lab, which records your sleep stages, breathing, brain waves, oxygen level, and heart and muscle activity. Our facility has 10 sleep suites that feature a private, handicapped-accessible bathroom and shower and other amenities to make your stay comfortable, including Wi-Fi access, a flat-screen television with cable TV and DVD player, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, and a shared lounge with kitchen. Our suites are designed for children of all ages and their parents. We also have custom-built beds, bathrooms, and exam tables designed to accommodate people who have obesity.
Our highly trained sleep specialists are experienced in designing personalized treatment programs to manage a wide range of sleep issues in both children and adults, including the following:
Our sleep medicine specialists consult with experts trained in behavioral sleep medicine, cardiology, otolaryngology, neurology, and psychiatry to develop an effective care plan. Our individually designed treatment plans include education, behavioral therapy, and medications, and may include the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to help manage sleep apnea symptoms. A dental consultation may be recommended for a custom-fit device to treat snoring and sleep apnea.
Our team includes experts in pulmonary medicine, pediatric pulmonology, and sleep medicine.
