Our specialized team offers compassionate, innovative cardiac care for infants, children, and adolescents.

Our pediatric cardiologists provide exceptional care for children with heart disease from diagnosis through recovery, both in the hospital and during outpatient visits to the doctor’s office. We diagnose congenital heart defects and acquired heart disease in infants, children, and adolescents using techniques such as echocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, treadmill exercise stress testing, and electrophysiology studies.

Through our Pediatric Heart Failure and Transplant Program, we provide the most advanced care for children who have heart failure, including ventricular assist device therapy and heart pumps that are used in preparation for heart transplant.

We also care for patients throughout the hospital, including in the Congenital Cardiovascular Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, newborn nursery, and labor and delivery unit.

In addition to cardiac catheterization, our cardiologists use advanced cardiac imaging techniques, such as three-dimensional echocardiography and cardiac MRI, to diagnose all forms of complex congenital heart disease. When surgical treatment is required, our pediatric cardiologists at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital work collaboratively with our cardiothoracic surgeons and nurse practitioners to accurately define the diagnosis and care for your child during and after surgery.

Our pediatric cardiologists are also actively involved in research aimed at preventing both congenital and acquired heart disease in children.

In addition to caring for children, we provide consultations for adults with congenital heart disease.

Family-Centered Cardiac Care

The vast majority of children with heart defects, even those with complex types, spend most of their time at home under their parents’ care and require only periodic visits to the pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist.

But there are times when surgery is necessary, and we understand that the hospital can be an overwhelming place for children and parents alike. For this reason, we make every effort to provide a warm, caring, and comfortable environment.

Programs provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care support our family-centered model, where parents are valued partners in the care of their children. Sala Institute delivers child life services, social work services, and spiritual and emotional support for children and families. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take an active role in their children’s treatment by participating in Family-Centered Rounds with our medical staff and staying with their children overnight in the hospital at their bedside, if they would like.

We provide treatment and support for children through every step of the journey and are often able to continue caring for children as they mature into adulthood through our integrated health system.
