Partnering with Us During Your Child’s Care

Families are vital partners with the care team at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone. No one knows your child better than you do, and we rely on your expertise and your unique perspective as we work together to provide your child with the treatment he or she needs.

VIDEO: Every member of our care team has a specific role in ensuring your child’s health, comfort, and wellbeing.

As part of our child- and family-centered approach to care, we encourage you to do the following:

  • Share your goals for your child with us.
  • Tell us about your child. What are his or her hobbies, likes, and dislikes? Should we use a nickname?
  • Let us know if your child is in pain or experiencing stress. We want to hear your suggestions on ways to comfort your child.
  • If your child is in the hospital, participate in Family-Centered Rounds, which provide an opportunity for you to talk with your child’s doctors and ask questions.
  • Let us know if you have any safety concerns regarding your child’s care, such as if you think your child is at risk of falling.
  • Ask for the services that you need, including interpretation if you prefer a language other than English.
  • Stay with your child all day and night, if that is what is best for you and your child.
  • Invite friends and family to visit your child, but ask those who are not feeling well to call instead of visit.
