Experts at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine offer a specialized approach to healing chronic wounds.

A wound that does not respond to standard medical care is considered a problem or chronic wound. Many of these wounds are associated with inadequate circulation, immobility, diabetes, infection, inflammation, recurring trauma, or malnutrition.

Advanced Treatments We Offer

People with nonhealing or chronic wounds, including nonhealing diabetic foot ulcers, can access advanced treatments at our center, including:

  • hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)
  • growth factors
  • bioengineered tissues
  • negative pressure wound therapy, also known as vacuum-assisted closure or wound VAC
  • biologic dressings
  • active topicals
  • total contact casting

About 92 percent of patients at the NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Care Center heal within 25 days.

Our center has been awarded Clinical Hyperbaric Medicine Facility Accreditation by the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), the gold standard in hyperbaric facility accreditation and the only hyperbaric specific accreditation to be recognized by The Joint Commission

Our Team Approach to Care

Our experts work closely with specialists in infectious disease management, laboratory evaluation, nutritional services, diabetic education, and radiology to ensure a compete approach to healing.

Our team of skilled nurses and experienced hyperbaric technicians are under the medical direction of doctors who are specialty-trained in surgery, podiatry, wound care, and hyperbaric medicine. Each team member has undergone extensive training in wound care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and chamber operations.

Equally important to our training and expertise is our commitment to providing compassionate care and support to every one of our patients. As part of your care plan, our providers may offer lifestyle change recommendations such as quitting smoking, increasing physical activity, or addressing alcohol use disorder to support wound healing.

During treatment, patients remain in the care of their primary physicians, who we keep informed with frequent progress reports. In addition, we coordinate referrals to specialists in vascular, plastic, bariatric surgery, general surgery, and infectious diseases.

When and How to Make an Appointment

Patients who have an open wound and do not appear to be progressing in a timely fashion, especially if diagnosed with diabetes or have poor circulation, should receive a prompt evaluation from a wound care provider. Wounds often fail to mount an adequate response to infection and inflammation.

You may call our center directly or be referred by your doctor. To make an appointment, please call 631-687-4190. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45AM to 4:00PM.

Many health plans cover wound care. Contact us to determine what your specific plan covers.
