Sala Youth Advisory Council

Our Sala Youth Advisory Council is made up of teens who can tell us what no one else can—what it’s really like to be a patient at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone.

We value our youth advisors’ insights, ideas, and constructive criticism. With their help, we come up with ways to improve the healthcare experience for teens, children, and families.

Youth Advisory Council

Our youth advisors give us feedback about the care experience.

The Youth Advisory Council, which meets monthly, is led by a pediatric social worker and a child life specialist. The council offered important input into the design of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street. Youth Advisory Council services are made possible through the expertise and resources of our Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.

“I’ve been able to share my story and give back to the people who helped me. I feel my voice has made a difference.”

Lia, Sala Youth Advisory Council Member

Other contributions of our youth advisors include the following:

  • teaching medical students how to talk with young children and teens
  • helping teenagers prepare for the transition from pediatric to adult care
  • sharing ideas for ways to keep our youngest patients safe from falling when in the hospital

Youth Advisory Council members are energized, motivated, and opinionated—and we welcome it. Their unique perspective is invaluable to our work.
