I chose a career in medicine because I saw how intimidating and overwhelming it can be for patients and families navigating complex medical conditions—especially within marginalized communities where historical mistrust often deepens those challenges. As part of my journey, I pursued an MD/PhD to gain a deep understanding of the biological sciences and make them more accessible to others. Rheumatology became my specialty of choice because it crosses traditional boundaries, involving multiple organ systems and patients ranging from those in outpatient clinics to those in critical care settings. I’m particularly passionate about autoimmune diseases and Sjögren’s disease, as they embody both the scientific complexity and the human need for compassionate care that drew me to medicine in the first place.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is building trust and rapport with my patients, which I believe is essential to effective care. Medicine can be frightening, and I strive to create a space where patients feel heard, supported, and empowered. By listening deeply and communicating transparently, I aim to ease the anxiety that comes with medical uncertainty. I see my role as a partner and guide, helping patients understand their diagnoses and treatment options in a way that gives them confidence and clarity throughout their healthcare journey.

In my practice, I treat a range of autoimmune and rheumatological conditions and have a deep clinical and research interest in Sjögren’s disease and autoantibody-mediated disorders. My approach is informed by years of molecular immunology and B cell biology research, which allows me to bring a unique depth and rigor to challenging diagnostic cases. By linking scientific discoveries in the lab with real-world patient care, I aim to bridge gaps between research and clinical practice, offering care that is as precise as it is compassionate.

As a clinician-scientist, my background spans advanced molecular immunology, B cell receptor signaling pathways, and data workflow analyses. Beyond the technical expertise, I am deeply committed to health equity and culturally competent care. This combination of scientific insight and patient-centered philosophy enables me to deliver highly individualized and inclusive care tailored to each patient’s needs.

When seeking care for complex autoimmune and rheumatological conditions, I want my patients to know that they are entering a collaborative partnership. My goal is not only to provide treatment but also to help them truly understand their condition by offering clear, accessible explanations and practical guidance. Through this approach, I work to empower patients to take an active role in managing their health.

Research is a key part of my career, and I've had the privilege of contributing to investigations in B cell biology and its impact on rheumatological disorders, with publications in leading journals such as Cell Reports and Immunological Reviews. Alongside this, I’ve been engaged in medical education and health equity research, efforts that consistently inform my clinical approach. By combining these insights, I seek to drive better therapeutic strategies and enhance care for patients with autoimmune diseases.

Throughout my career, I’ve been honored with several awards that highlight my dedication to compassionate care and healthcare equity. These include the Bernard Zussman Allergy and Immunology Award, the NMF Dr. Randolph Chase Memorial Scholarship, and an induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society—all of which reflect my commitment to empathy and patient-centered care. Being named the NYU Rheumatology Fellow of the Year and receiving the NYU Presidential Service Award are achievements that remind me of the importance of collaboration and inclusion in medicine. These honors motivate me to continue striving for excellence and to ensure that every patient feels seen and supported.
