Jinsy A. Andrews, MD

I am a neurologist with a specialized focus on neuromuscular diseases, particularly amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). At NYU Langone Health, I serve as the director of the ALS clinic and the director of clinical trials, where my work is dedicated to revolutionizing ALS care and fostering innovative clinical trials. My primary goal is to introduce groundbreaking therapies for those affected by ALS and other neuromuscular disorders.

Recognized globally as a leader in the ALS field, I am driven by a commitment to collaboration and advancement. My leadership is demonstrated through my roles, including the elected co-chair position at the Network of Excellence for ALS (NEALS)—an international consortium comprised of over 150 ALS centers focused on developing novel treatments. Additionally, I am a member of the steering committee for the Cures Collective, a nonprofit organization devoted to unifying efforts against neurodegenerative diseases to expedite treatments and improve care accessibility. My past involvement with the national board of trustees for the ALS Association further underscores my dedication to this cause.

Advocacy and education are key components of my mission. I actively engage with a diverse community, including individuals living with ALS, caregivers, industry leaders, governmental stakeholders, community organizations, and fellow clinicians and researchers. A highlight of my advocacy work was the pivotal role I played in the passage of the ACT for ALS Act, unanimously signed into law in 2021. This legislation provides crucial research funding, fostering enhanced access to investigational therapies and supporting fundamental scientific and clinical research for ALS and other neurodegenerative conditions.

I hold board certifications in neurology, neuromuscular disease, and electrodiagnostic medicine, and my contributions have been acknowledged through various accolades. These include the Diamond Award for ALS Research, fellowships in the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN) and the American Neurological Association (FANA), and the prestigious Healey International Prize for Innovation in ALS.

My clinical and research endeavors are informed by extensive experience in designing and leading human clinical trials across all phases for neuromuscular diseases within both academic and industry settings. With ALS and related motor neuron disorders as my central focus, my career has been dedicated to patient care and advancing therapeutic discoveries.

My educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in music and biology from Union College, a medical degree from Albany Medical College, and neurology residency training at the University of Connecticut. I further honed my expertise with an ALS/neuromuscular and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Columbia University and a master’s degree in biostatistics from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

My steadfast commitment to patient support is fueled by the profound challenges posed by neuromuscular disorders, such as ALS. Navigating these conditions requires deep empathy and a commitment to delivering exceptional care. I emphasize listening to each patient's unique story to craft personalized care plans that respect their individual needs and healthcare aspirations.
