As an epileptologist at NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, I am dedicated to advancing epilepsy treatment through innovative research. My approach focuses on improving clinical outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with epilepsy. By integrating the latest therapeutic advances and diagnostic tools, I strive to provide comprehensive and effective care tailored to each patient's unique needs.

I specialize in clinical trials for new epilepsy therapies and devices, concentrating on predicting outcomes and improving clinical care. For more than 30 years, I have served as the principal investigator on numerous trials for new epilepsy drugs. My work has led to developing novel trial designs that have been accepted by regulatory authorities for new drug approvals. Additionally, I founded the Epilepsy Study Consortium, an academic group dedicated to performing early-phase clinical trials and developing new methodologies for epilepsy research.

My educational journey began with a deep interest in neurology, leading to a career dedicated to epilepsy research and treatment. I have authored more than 300 articles and chapters, edited three books, and frequently present lectures internationally on clinical trials and the use of antiepileptic drugs.

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in shaping guidelines and nomenclature for the American Academy of Neurology and the International League Against Epilepsy. I have held leadership roles, including chair of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) North American Regional Commission and the Commission on Therapeutic Strategies. As the medical director of the Epilepsy Foundation and past president of the American Epilepsy Society, I have contributed significantly to the field.

My efforts have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the American Epilepsy Society Lennox Award and Service Award, the Epilepsy Foundation Hero Award, and the ILAE Ambassador for Epilepsy Award.
