Willy Gonzalez, D.O.

As a sports medicine physician at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to providing comprehensive care that focuses on treating patients as a whole, not just their symptoms. I find immense satisfaction in helping athletes of all levels return to their peak performance. My role allows me to combine my passion for sports with my commitment to proactive healthcare engagement, ensuring my patients receive the best possible care.

I specialize in managing a wide range of sports-related injuries and chronic conditions, including issues of the joints, tendons, muscles, and ligaments. My clinical interests also extend to overhead throwing athletes, sports-related concussion management, running athletes, and dance medicine.

With over a decade of experience, I am trained in ultrasound-guided procedures for tendon and chronic degenerative conditions. My board-certification and fellowship training in sports medicine, combined with my residency in family medicine, underscore my expertise and dedication to this field.

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in research and education, presenting at national conferences through the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM). My work has focused on adolescent and collegiate athlete mental health and concussion management, reflecting my commitment to advancing the field of sports medicine. I have also served as assistant team physician for high school, collegiate, and professional teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies and Villanova University, and participated in the 2021 MLB International Combine.

My journey into medicine began at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network family medicine, where I served as chief resident and received the Resident Educator of the Year Award. My fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital further honed my skills in non-operative sports medicine. Fluent in Spanish, I am proud to serve our Spanish-speaking community, ensuring they receive the same high level of care.
