Deniz Kesebir, MD

Growing up in Europe, I was surrounded by curious-minded people embedded in the culture of learning. As a student, I was drawn to helping people and listening to their stories; I found in science there are stories without words that were waiting to be explored. I found medicine was the best way to help people and explore science.

I specialize in pediatric pulmonary medicine, primarily treating kids who have breathing problems and chronic cough. During my fellowship, I studied a respiratory virus called human bocavirus (HBoV); now my focus is exploring other causes of asthma that makes asthma control challenging.

At the severe asthma clinic, I collaborate with patients and their families to determine the specific type of asthma they have, whether allergic or not. This process involves investigative work, utilizing pulmonary function tests, among others; imaging; and occasionally bronchoscopies and biopsies to gain a deeper understanding of their condition.

I enjoy getting to know patients and their families and fostering long-term relationships with them as we work together to manage their disease and come up with the best treatment plan.
