About Me
I became a neurosurgeon to focus on restoring function for people with neurological and psychiatric disorders. From an early age, my parents, both engineers, showed me the power of technology to solve difficult problems. Ever since, my goal has been to use innovation to improve the lives of people with brain disorders.
At NYU Langone’s Center for Neuromodulation, I treat patients with movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and dystonia, as well as those with epilepsy and select psychiatric conditions.
I am fortunate to take care of patients at a time when advances in technology provide hope for people who previously had limited options. I believe we can help almost everyone, even if the approach is non-surgical. This philosophy shapes how I deliver care — I offer a full range of therapies from incision-less and minimally invasive procedures to conventional surgery.
I am experienced in state-of-the-art technologies including deep brain stimulation (DBS), responsive neurostimulation (RNS), high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), laser ablation, and robotic-assisted and MRI-guided procedures. For the most complex cases, I perform multi-nodal DBS, stimulating multiple brain regions to create individualized treatments.
My National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded research focuses on developing personalized technologies that treat neurologic disorders. My decade-long collaboration with the NYU Center for Neural Science challenges longstanding theories of how Parkinson’s disease can disrupt not just movement, but also thinking—an aspect that is often overlooked but can be equally disabling.
My education in medicine and technology has shaped how I treat patients. After studying neuroscience and biophysics at Princeton University, I completed my neurosurgical training at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Stanford University focusing on minimally invasive, targeted procedures.
I partner closely with patients and a specialized team including expert neurologists, psychiatrists, and neurophysiologists to design personalized treatment plans for functional restoration. I take time to get to know my patients and their families and prioritize being accessible whenever they need me. My goal is to explain the options before patients and their families to help us choose the best path forward, together.
