Research Summary
Dr. Hooman Khorasani is a fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic and cosmetic surgeon with four board certifications in Dermatology, Cosmetic Surgery, Facial Cosmetic Surgery, and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery. His research bridges cutaneous oncology, reconstructive surgery, and minimally invasive aesthetics, consistently emphasizing scar optimization, wound healing, and natural-appearing outcomes.
He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, reviews, and book chapters covering advanced scar revision strategies, wound healing biology, and innovations in energy-based and injectable therapies. His early fellowship work elucidated the role of fibromodulin and TGF-β signaling in wound repair, forming the foundation for clinical investigations into scar modulation. Clinically, Dr. Khorasani has led randomized trials on fractional lasers and botulinum toxin to improve postoperative scars, introduced new protocols for deoxycholic acid and poly-L-lactic acid in body contouring, and contributed consensus on safety practices with fillers and lasers..
He is also the editor and author of Surgical Lifting (Elsevier, 2024), and has authored chapters in multiple leading textbooks on procedural dermatology, eyelid surgery chemical peels, rhytidectomy, and reconstructive strategies. His work advances evidence-based, patient-centered approaches that integrate reconstructive rigor with aesthetic innovation .
Major Research Themes
1. Wound Healing & Scar Optimization
