Anna Suessbrick, PhD

As a psychologist at the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Men’s Health, I am driven by a deep curiosity about what motivates and interests people—their values, experiences, and desires. This curiosity likely stems from my own experiences of frequently moving during my childhood and adapting to new social environments. Becoming a psychologist has allowed me to channel this natural curiosity into helping others navigate their mental health challenges.

I specialize in providing individual psychotherapy to adults dealing with anxiety conditions, including health anxiety, panic, social anxiety, and generalized anxiety. Additionally, I support patients facing depression, adjustment to illness, and work or relationship problems. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and tailored to each individual’s needs. Depending on my patients’ presenting issues and personality style, I may use structured, here-and-now interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and solution-focused techniques. Alternatively, I may employ insight-based exploration or “talk therapy” to help my patients make sense of past experiences and move beyond old thinking and behavioral patterns.

My educational background includes a PhD in clinical psychology from the New School for Social Research and a clinical internship at the Portland (OR) VA Medical Center, where I completed rotations in health psychology, neuropsychology, and PTSD. In addition, I have extensive experience working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ, whether identity is a core focus of the treatment or simply a meaningful context of their lives. I welcome patients with diverse cultures, ethnicities, spiritual practices, and backgrounds. When working together, I favor an enquiring rather than “expert” stance, recognizing that I can be most helpful when I better understand my patients’ identity and experiences in the world.
