I grew up in a family of highly respected surgeons, including my grandfather and father, and have devoted nearly three decades to advancing minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, earning national and international recognition as a leader in the field.

Overseeing the minimally invasive gynecologic surgery programs at NYU Langone, my mission is to ensure patients not only receive the highest-quality care but also achieve the best-possible outcomes through a blend of surgical expertise, technology, and genuine compassion.

My commitment to patient care extends beyond the operating room, particularly in understanding the various causes of pelvic pain—an essential aspect of being an endometriosis surgical expert. I take a unique approach, placing emphasis on a comprehensive medical history and a meticulous pelvic exam, in which I reproduce a patient’s symptoms, pinpointing the source of pain. This allows me to avoid unnecessary diagnostic tests and to create a highly effective and personalized treatment plan, helping people heal sooner. Many patients say I am the first doctor to truly understand what they are going through.

In my holistic, patient-centered approach to care, I combine treatments such as pelvic physical therapy or carefully prescribed medications with minimally invasive surgical interventions. In addition, shared decision-making ensures my patients are well informed about evolving technologies and their treatment options.

I specialize in advanced surgical techniques for treating complex forms of endometriosis. These include bowel and urinary tract endometriosis, as well as the often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed rectus muscle endometriosis, in which endometrial tissue grows in the muscles that run up the front of the abdomen. I take pride in being the first to publish on minimally invasive surgical techniques for the removal of rectus muscle endometriosis, showcasing my commitment to pushing the boundaries of gynecologic surgery.

I have been honored as one of Castle Connolly’s America’s Top Doctors since 2011, and my dedication to excellent patient care is deeply ingrained. As the immediate past president of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), I actively contribute to advancing the field, collaborating with endometriosis advocacy groups and playing a key role in revising endometriosis diagnosis codes with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the first time in more than four decades.

I am privileged to be the recipient of the AAGL Golden Laparoscope Award, earning this prestigious recognition six times. This accolade stands as a testament to my craftsmanlike approach to surgery, seamlessly blending artistic precision with the latest technological developments.
