Perlmutter Cancer Center Survivorship Program
We know that the end of treatment does not signal the end of cancer’s impact on your life. The effects can linger, and they can be both physical and emotional. Our Cancer Survivorship Program at NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center provides support and services designed to help you transition to life after treatment. Our program is led by Dr. Marleen Meyers and supported by nurse practitioners, oncology nurses, social workers, registered dietitians, and integrative medicine specialists.
Optimizing Physical and Emotional Health
Our team works with you to identify the most appropriate cancer survivorship resources and create a plan to optimize your physical and emotional health after cancer treatment.
Many of our survivorship services are free or covered by insurance.
A nurse practitioner can talk with you about any challenges you may encounter and ways you can enhance wellness. Our social workers can help with issues related to intimacy and family dynamics, as well as any financial challenges you face. If you are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, fear, or any other complicated emotions after treatment, we can refer you to a therapist for counseling.
In addition to conventional remedies for the physical and emotional side effects of cancer treatment, our experts may recommend integrative medicine therapies, such as acupuncture and massage. If you have difficulty remembering things or processing information, we can connect you with a neuropsychologist who can help.
We offer therapies to support your wellbeing during and after cancer treatment.Learn More
Experts at Rusk Rehabilitation can provide physical rehabilitation to manage weakness, fatigue, or neurological or other symptoms after cancer treatment.
Our experts can help you craft a plan for a healthy lifestyle after cancer. Our nutritionists work with you to design an eating plan to help you feel your best while reducing your risk of illness. If you smoke, we can refer you to the Tobacco Cessation Program for counseling and treatment.
If you want to start an exercise program, experts at Rusk Rehabilitation can provide guidance. We also offer a free weekly exercise class called CancerFIT, which is open to all Perlmutter Cancer Center patients before, during, and after treatment. Supervised by licensed physical therapists, the goal of this 45-minute class is to help you cope with the physical and emotional effects of cancer.
We also host educational events related to survivorship.
The Survivorship Program is available to all current and former Perlmutter Cancer Center patients and their caregivers. Many services are free or covered by insurance. To learn more about how we can help, please contact your doctor.
