Recognition

U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” ranks NYU Langone among the top 5 hospitals in the country for gastroenterology and GI surgery.

Experts at the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Lake Success provide compassionate, patient-centered care to people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Our center brings the nationally recognized care and services of NYU Langone’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center to one convenient Long Island location.

Our mission is not only to provide accurate diagnosis and the most advanced medical and surgical treatments available, but also to improve your overall health and quality of life. We achieve these aims with world-class care provided by leading medical and surgical experts and services that support your nutritional, mental, and emotional needs.

Medical and Surgical Care

Most people with IBD require only medical treatments to manage symptoms and flare-ups. Our gastroenterologists work with you to determine which therapies will be most effective to treat your symptoms and help you enter and maintain remission. These may include lifestyle modifications, medications such as biologics or small-molecule therapies, or a combination of both.

Some people with IBD will require surgery to restore their quality of life. Our colorectal surgeons are among the most experienced in the country and are experts in minimally invasive and robotic techniques. They perform complex and innovative procedures to treat IBD including bowel-sparing operations, J-pouch procedures, as well as ostomies and anal fistula surgery. Our surgeons also perform redo operations, including redo J-pouch surgery, which may be recommended to repair complications from previous surgery.

Nutrition Support

Inflammation caused by IBD can make it difficult for your body to digest food and absorb its nutrients. This makes proper nutrition an important part of your treatment plan. Our dietitians assess your current diet and eating habits, work with you to create a personalized nutrition plan, and, during regular check-ins, help you make sustainable changes that improve your overall health and quality of life.

Psychological Support

Living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis can be challenging. It’s why we offer a variety of psychological services to help support your emotional and mental wellbeing:

  • short- and long-term psychotherapy, in person and by a video doctor visit
  • virtual group therapy
  • cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT
  • support groups for people who have IBD, those who have had colorectal surgery, and caregivers
  • gut-directed hypnotherapy groups
  • a buddy program that matches patients for mutual support
  • wellness events

Access to Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are research studies whose goals are to identify new treatments for conditions such as IBD. Our team can determine whether enrolling in a trial is appropriate for you and refer you to our affiliated locations that are running these trials.
