Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology Care

Doctors at NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Garden City offer comprehensive diabetes care for children and endocrinology care for children who have developmental disorders.

Personalized Diabetes Care for Children

Our doctors work closely with your family to develop a personalized treatment plan, and we provide pediatric diabetes support groups and symposia for our patients and community members. The American Diabetes Association recognizes our program as meeting the national standards of diabetes self-management education, and our insulin pump program is one of the largest on Long Island.

Care for Children Who Have Developmental Disabilities

Our experts also provide specialized care and support for children with Down syndrome, developmental disabilities, and Turner Syndrome. For more information on these programs, please call Lori Benzoni at 516-663-2112 or email Lori.Benzoni@NYULangone.org.

Down Syndrome Program

Our multidisciplinary team provides compassionate and coordinated care for children with Down syndrome from birth to age 19. During a half-day visit, patients are able to see specialists that include a pediatric endocrinologist, registered dietitian nutritionist, feeding and swallowing specialist, and licensed clinical social worker. During this evaluation, we determine the most age-appropriate treatment for your child’s medical conditions and social concerns. Following the assessment, our program coordinator helps you set up your child’s follow-up appointments.

Star Program

The Star Program provides enhanced, coordinated care for children with developmental disabilities through age 18. Our experienced and caring child life specialists conduct a comprehensive assessment in advance of a doctor’s visit or procedure to learn a patient’s likes and dislikes, so their care team can prepare accordingly. Our team is specially trained in caring for children with complex medical and behavioral issues and provides emotional support for patients and their families. Parents of children enrolled in the program can call in advance of their child’s appointment so our team can be properly prepared.

Turner Syndrome Program

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island’s Turner syndrome clinic is the only program of its kind on Long Island. Doctors at our center of care treat girls with this genetic condition through age 25. The pediatric endocrinologists, registered dietitian nutritionists, and cardiologists on our team first conduct a half-day evaluation and then collaborate with your daughter’s pediatrician to develop a comprehensive care plan based on its findings.

Prader-Willi Syndrome Program

Our multidisciplinary team provides compassionate and coordinated care for children to young adults with Prader-Willi syndrome. Our program is held on Wednesday afternoons. Following the assessment, our program coordinator helps you set up your child’s follow-up appointments. Our program offers a virtual support group featuring expert guest speakers and topics for children with Prader-Willi syndrome and their families. Please call 516-663-2112 or email Lori.Benzoni@NYULangone.org for more information. You can also view community events at NYU Langone NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island for more information.
