I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of science and humanity, which is what ultimately led me to a career in medicine. Growing up, I watched my father, a pediatric congenital cardiologist, develop lifelong relationships with his patients. He wasn’t just their doctor; he became their steadfast supporter during some of their most vulnerable moments. Witnessing the trust families placed in him and how he used his expertise to bring hope and comfort made a lasting impression on me. I knew early on that I wanted to have that same kind of impact.

During my cardiology training, I discovered my passion for heart failure. I found myself missing the depth and continuity of care I loved in internal medicine, and heart failure gave me the opportunity to connect complex physiology with the holistic care needed to treat the whole patient. Managing advanced heart failure allows me to build meaningful, long-term relationships while navigating highly intricate medical challenges. What I find most fulfilling about this specialty is how we can change the trajectory of someone’s life through advanced therapies like left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and transplants, while also enhancing quality of life for those who may not have these options. The interplay of continuity, complexity, and impact is what drives me every day.

My approach to patient care is centered on empathy and understanding. Coming from a diverse background, I truly appreciate that every patient defines health and success in unique ways. Health care isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, and my goal is always to meet patients where they are—honoring their goals, values, and personal circumstances. Being a physician, for me, is about more than scientific knowledge. It’s about listening, building trust, and working together to develop a plan of care that aligns with what matters most to the person in front of me. I see my role as not just helping my patients, but advocating for them, supporting them through vulnerable times, and walking alongside them on their journey. That mutual connection is what continually motivates me to provide the best care I can. In my clinical practice, I focus on the management of complex cardiomyopathies, including genetic, infiltrative, and idiopathic conditions, often within the context of advanced heart failure.

One of the unique strengths of our multidisciplinary team is our deeply personalized approach to care. We tailor every decision not only to the clinical nuances of each patient but also to their personal goals and support systems. Our team includes cardiologists, surgeons, intensivists, pharmacists, social workers, and coordinators, all of whom collaborate to ensure we approach every patient’s situation holistically. This teamwork is especially critical for advanced heart failure, where decisions about LVADs, transplants, or other therapies require balancing sophisticated medical evidence with the patient’s values and priorities. As a team, we are committed to being our patients’ partners—helping them navigate the complexities of their condition and supporting them through every step of their care.

For patients living with heart failure, I know the journey can feel overwhelming. The ups and downs, the uncertainty, and the difficult decisions can take both a physical and emotional toll. That’s why I want my patients to know they’re not alone. Having a specialized team means having people who can break down complicated information, guide you through the tough moments, and celebrate the successes with you. Whether we’re exploring advanced therapies or focusing on enhancing quality of life, I’m committed to making sure my patients feel informed, empowered, and supported.

My dedication to heart failure extends beyond patient care to research. Early in my career, I gained valuable insights from cardiopulmonary exercise testing, which helped me understand how physical limitations translate into everyday challenges for my patients. I’ve also worked on projects related to cardiometabolic contributions to cardiomyopathies and more recently have focused on transplant research, including desensitization and rejection. These experiences have deepened my understanding of advanced heart failure and strengthened my belief in combining innovation with truly patient-centered care.

Being elected as chief fellow during my training was a particularly meaningful recognition for me. What made it special was that the honor came from my peers—it showed me that my co-fellows trusted me, not only as a physician but as a colleague and leader. That sense of trust and teamwork is something I carry with me in my daily practice. Success in managing advanced heart failure comes not from a single individual, but from a collective effort. It requires tight collaboration across disciplines, with every team member contributing their unique expertise to deliver the best possible care. I see my role not just as a clinician, but as part of this larger team—working together toward a shared goal of improving the lives of our patients.
