Gabrielle M. Mayer, MD

As an internist at NYU Langone, I am committed to delivering care that is both thorough and compassionate for my patients. I specialize in LGBTQ+ health, with a particular focus on managing chronic conditions within this community. My expertise is backed by my extensive training and credentials, including my medical degree from NYU Grossman School of Medicine, where I was honored with the Eve Flexner Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine. With several years of experience in the field, I have developed a deep understanding of the unique health challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and I am committed to providing tailored, empathetic care.

My philosophy centers on proactive healthcare engagement, ensuring that my patients are well-informed and actively involved in their healthcare. I find immense satisfaction in fostering strong partnerships, guiding patients towards optimal health and wellbeing.

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in research and advocacy, particularly in the realm of health equity. I hosted the Queer Health Podcast, a platform dedicated to discussing and addressing health issues within the LGBTQ+ community. My research, supported by the DIMOND Health Equity Research Fellowship, focuses on improving the collection of sexual orientation and gender identity information in clinical settings. This work is crucial to enhancing the quality of care for patients who are trans-identified and ensuring their voices are heard in the healthcare system.

After graduating from NYU Grossman School of Medicine, I chose to remain at NYU Langone as a general internal medicine fellow. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in health professions education, with a focus on teaching medical trainees about queer health. This educational pursuit allows me to contribute to the next generation of healthcare providers, ensuring they are well-equipped to deliver inclusive and competent care.
