Yiming Gao, MD

As a radiologist specializing in breast imaging at NYU Langone Health, I am dedicated to using advanced technology to detect and diagnose breast cancer. My role as the associate section chief for the breast imaging division and lead interpreting physician at the Center for Women’s Imaging allows me to work closely with patients throughout their journey from diagnosis to treatment and surveillance. This close interaction and the ability to positively impact women’s health drive my commitment to clinical care and research.

I specialize in interpreting all breast imaging modalities, including digital mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). My fellowship training has equipped me with the expertise to perform biopsies for diagnosis and localization procedures to guide surgery. At NYU Langone, we utilize state-of-the-art three-dimensional digital breast tomosynthesis and an MRI protocol with ultra-fast imaging, enhancing our ability to detect cancer and reduce scan times.

Throughout my career, I have focused on improving breast imaging outcomes through advanced imaging techniques. My research is particularly aimed at understanding and bridging knowledge gaps that hinder optimal breast cancer care in diverse patient populations. My journey into medicine was deeply motivated by a desire to have a positive impact on the lives of those afflicted by breast cancer. Through research, education, and collaborative work with an amazing multidisciplinary team here at NYU Langone, I am committed to providing the best possible care to our patients.
