About Me
As the medical director of the NYU Langone Dialysis Center–Bethpage, I am deeply committed to providing meticulous and compassionate care to my patients.
I specialize in nephrology, focusing on managing chronic kidney disease and related conditions. With over 40 years of experience, I have dedicated my career to understanding and treating complex kidney disorders. My expertise extends to disorders of serum sodium, and I have co-authored several articles on hyponatremia (too little sodium in the blood) and acute kidney failure.
Throughout my career, I have been involved in developing treatments and advancing nephrology care. One of my notable contributions includes demonstrating that initiating a form of dialysis, known as continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration, after cardiac surgery significantly improves outcomes for those who developed acute kidney injury. Additionally, our nephrology division at NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island has developed one of the most successful kidney transplant programs, providing life-changing care to many patients locally.
My interest in medicine began with a personal loss that inspired me to pursue a career in which I could make a significant impact on people's lives. My educational journey began at the University of Bologna School of Medicine and Surgery, where I developed a keen interest in human chemistry and physiology. This foundation led me to specialize in nephrology at Nassau University Medical Center. My passion for patient care and research continues to drive me, and I am honored to be part of the NYU Langone team, which prioritizes comprehensive coordinated care.
