Michela Rosso, MD

As a vascular neurologist at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to improving patients' lives through both clinical care and research. My approach is centered on a patient-first philosophy, ensuring that each individual receives the highest standard of care, especially in high-stakes emergency situations. In my role as an assistant professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, I emphasize the importance of preserving brain function and delivering precise, timely interventions, teaching my students that “time is brain” to highlight the urgency in acute stroke care.

I specialize in treating patients with all types of strokes and lead two specialty clinics: one for women with stroke, and another for patients experiencing both stroke and cardiac conditions. These clinics allow me to provide personalized, nuanced care to patient populations with unique needs.

It has always been important for me to integrate compassionate care with innovative research. My current research interests include exploring sex differences in stroke outcomes to advance personalized medicine that accounts for sex-specific variations in disease presentation and treatment response. Furthermore, I am invested in understanding and managing complex brain–heart interactions, particularly in stroke–heart syndrome, where acute myocardial injury follows a stroke. This commitment to research ensures that my patients benefit from the latest advances in stroke treatment and prevention.

My fascination with the brain's unique ability to control our every organ and encapsulate who we are as individuals sparked a lifelong curiosity and a deep desire to better understand and treat its disorders. I pursued a career in vascular neurology inspired by the remarkable advances in stroke treatment and prevention. The opportunity to intervene in acute neurovascular emergencies and make real, often life-changing differences in patients' lives, continues to motivate me.
