Research Summary
  • I chose a career in Thoracic Surgery because of the immediate and long lasting positive impact this can have on someone's life.
  • As a lung transplant and thoracic surgeon, I often meet patients at the most challenging time in their lives. I build trust and rapport through shared goals and commitment to the best care for everyone.
  • As a thoracic surgeon, I provide surgical treatment for diseases of the lung, esophagus, chest cavity and mediastinum.
  • As a lung transplant surgeon I treat end stage lung disease. In addition to lung transplant this often includes procedures before or after transplant surgery such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
  • I work with an outstanding multidisciplinary team at the NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center to evaluate lung cancer and other tumors of the chest cavity. I was specifically trained to use the Davinci Robotic system (both multiport and single-port) to perform minimally invasive lung cancer surgery.
  • In addition, I work with the world class team at the NYU Langone Transplant Institute. I perform lung transplants for patients with end stage lung diseases (including COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and cystic fibrosis). I am part of the robotic lung transplant team at NYU which offers a new minimally invasive option to patients. I participated in the nation’s first fully robotic lung transplant and the world’s first robotic double lung transplant.
  • NYU Transplant Institute operates one of the highest-quality and most efficient lung transplant programs in the United States. We routinely get donor organs to recipients on the waiting list at a faster rate than other centers and we often perform transplants on patients who have been rejected by other institutions.
  • I participate in lung cancer and lung transplant outcomes research as well as prospective randomized trials.
