Mohammad H. Dastjerdi, MD

I am a dedicated ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and external eye diseases, with expertise in conditions such as ocular surface disease, severe dry eye disease, corneal neovascularization, chemical injuries to the eye, limbal stem cell deficiency, and various forms of corneal transplantation. I am particularly passionate about helping patients regain their vision and improve their quality of life through individualized care and advanced treatments.

I completed extensive training, including fellowships at the University of Michigan and research training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School. My clinical and research experiences have focused on complex corneal conditions and advancing therapies for vision-threatening corneal diseases. Notably, my research with Dr. Reza Dana at Harvard explored cutting-edge treatments for corneal neovascularization and dry eye disease, such as anti-VEGF therapies and other biologics, and I continue to work on innovative solutions in ocular surface stem cell transplantation and biologic therapies.

At NYU Langone Health, I am spearheading the establishment of an ocular surface stem cell transplantation program, a highly specialized initiative to restore vision in patients with severe ocular surface disease resulting from conjunctival and corneal stem cell deficiency. This program leverages NYU Langone’s multidisciplinary expertise, combining the fields of ophthalmology, transplant medicine, and beyond, to provide comprehensive and state-of-the-art patient care.

My approach centers on building trust through transparency, education, and a collaborative patient-care relationship. I take the time to ensure my patients understand their conditions, treatment options, and the care journey, fostering long-term partnerships that prioritize personalized outcomes.
