Driven by a profound interest in the history of science and medicine, alongside a commitment to human rights, my path to a career in medicine was inspired by the powerful intersection of scientific advancements and their impact on health. Psychiatry captivated me due to its unique blend of biological and social considerations, essential for improving patient lives.

A major focus of my work has been the challenge of assisting individuals who do not respond to existing treatments. I’m particularly interested in pioneering treatments that enhance brain mitochondrial function and metabolism, offering hope to those unresponsive to traditional neurotransmitter-targeting medications.

In my roles as research assistant professor of psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and research psychiatrist at the Nathan Kline Institute of Psychiatric Research, I dedicate my research to developing therapies that potentially revolutionize brain energetics. Using advanced neuroimaging tools, my studies link scientific inquiry with tangible clinical applications. Concurrently, I am committed to designing systems that advance real-time learning and enhance care delivery for individuals suffering from bipolar disorder.

Providing patient care is a privilege I deeply value. I prioritize a holistic approach, balancing biological insights with a respectful understanding of each patient’s personal goals, values, and preferences. My collaborative efforts are directed toward fostering recovery, resilience, and sustained wellbeing.

Research Summary

At NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research, my research focuses on studying novel therapeutics improve metabolic abnormalities observed across a range of psychiatric and neurocognitive conditions, from mood disorders to Alzheimer’s disease. The aim of this research is to reduce the suffering of people who live with these conditions and their families. At present, my focus is on studying the effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors, antidiabetic medications that simulate the effects of ketogenic diets, on brain energetics. I was honored to receive the Nina Schooler Award and New Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology for this work.

As part of Dr. Dan Iosifescu’s research group, I contribute to clinical studies aimed at developing novel treatments for mood and cognitive disorders. Beyond clinical research, I hold a master’s degree in public policy and have authored publications on healthcare service delivery, quality improvement, and the financing of healthcare systems. This interdisciplinary background enables me to engage with mental health challenges from scientific, clinical and policy-driven perspectives.
