Alexandra L. Ortego, MD

As an emergency medicine physician at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to serving others during some of the most critical moments of their lives. My passion for science, problem solving, and education has found a perfect home in this field. I am privileged to be able to make a significant impact in a short amount of time, especially when patients are at their most vulnerable. Turning a person’s worst day into a moment of hope is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my job.

I care for patients of all ages, treating a variety of medical conditions. These range from life-threatening emergencies like heart attacks, strokes, and trauma to more-common issues such as infections, fractures, lacerations, and allergic reactions. As part of the emergency department team at NYU Langone, we are well prepared to provide comprehensive care to all patients. We are an American College of Surgeons Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center. Our physicians are board certified and up to date on the best evidence-based practices in emergency medicine.

In addition to my clinical work, I serve as the program director of the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine Emergency Medicine Residency. This role allows me to contribute to the education and training of the next generation of emergency medicine physicians. I am committed to supporting a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that fosters excellence in clinical care, education, and scholarship.
