I have always loved science and helping others, so medicine seemed like the perfect career for me. I was attracted to cardiology because treatments for heart conditions can both help patients feel better quickly and prevent future illness. I also wanted to establish long-term relationships with patients, which a cardiology practice allows me to do. A transparent and long-term relationship with a cardiologist can benefit patient health and longevity.

At NYU Langone Cardiovascular Associates—Midtown East, I am the point person for cardiology care. I treat the whole person, meaning I address all aspects of the patient’s wellbeing—including psychological health, which can affect heart disease risk. When necessary, I refer patients to subspecialists, such as interventional cardiologists and heart valve surgeons.

I manage coronary artery disease; arrhythmias, meaning irregular heartbeats; heart valve problems; and congestive heart failure. I educate patients about how they can reduce their risk of heart disease and monitor their blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. To diagnose heart disease and other cardiac problems, I perform exercise stress testing, echocardiography, vascular testing, and nuclear imaging. I also manage pacemakers and defibrillators, which regulate heart rate.

I pride myself on individualizing treatment. I always take a patients’ preferences and concerns into account when deciding on the optimal way to steer their care. It is rewarding to see patients’ conditions and symptoms improve after treatment.

In addition to caring for patients, I have published 30 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. My research has focused on biomarkers for congestive heart failure, cardiac imaging tests, and hypertension. During my internal medicine residency, I received a humanitarian award for my patient care skills.
