Our Approach to Treating

Stroke

The specialists at NYU Langone’s Comprehensive Stroke Center offer accurate diagnosis and rapid, effective treatment of stroke. We are certified by The Joint Commission as a comprehensive stroke center, which means our specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide the most advanced stroke care.

If you have symptoms of stroke, call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.

Your care team includes emergency medicine physicians, stroke neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, neurointensivists—doctors who specialize in life-threatening diseases of the brain and spinal cord—and other medical professionals trained in stroke care.

NYU Langone specialists also assess what kinds of services a person may need after a stroke, such as physical therapy, speech therapy, counseling, and therapies for swallowing disorders. Addressing these types of issues early in the process can help maximize recovery. An individualized care plan is created from the moment a person arrives with an acute stroke until the time he or she begins rehabilitation.

Treatment for Stroke

Treatment depends on the type of stroke a person has. It may include medication or surgery.
