Kellie N. Gergoudis, MD

As a psychiatrist at NYU Langone, I am deeply committed to understanding the intricate relationship between the mind, body, and overall wellbeing. My staunch belief in the connection between mental and physical health led me to pursue subspecialty training in consultation liaison psychiatry, the branch of psychiatry focused on the interface between general medicine and psychiatry. This training has equipped me with the expertise to treat individuals with co-morbid psychiatric and significant medical conditions.

In my role as a transplant psychiatrist, I work with my colleagues at the NYU Langone Transplant Institute to provide comprehensive psychiatric care for those facing the unique challenges around transplantation. My dedication to helping patients is rooted in my belief in the transformative power of psychiatry, and my unwavering commitment to providing care that is compassionate and personalized. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered in their treatment decisions.

I specialize in treating a variety of conditions, including mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and trauma-related disorders.

To provide truly comprehensive care to my patients, I have pursued additional training in research, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and interventional psychiatry modalities. Holding a master of science in clinical research, I stay abreast of the latest advancements in psychiatric care. I have completed multiple fellowships in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which have enhanced my ability to delve deeper into understanding each patient’s unique life experiences and the ways these shape their mental health.

Finally, I pursued training in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) so I may offer it as an additional therapeutic option when appropriate for those with treatment-resistant mental illness. My goal is to ensure that each patient receives care that is not only evidence-based, but also empathic and tailored to the patient’s individual needs.

My journey into medicine was inspired by my fascination with the impact of mental health on physical wellbeing. Psychiatry, with its profound potential to transform lives by helping individuals manage and overcome their mental health challenges, naturally drew me in.

I believe in a holistic, patient-centered approach that prioritizes understanding each individual’s unique circumstances and histories. My care extends beyond the condition or the treatment; I genuinely care about my patients as individuals. I want my patients to know that seeking care is a sign of strength, and I am committed to guiding them through their mental health journey with the utmost dedication and expertise.
