Alena Connelly, MD

From an early age I had a great passion for science, but I also enjoyed communicating with people and problem solving. Medicine gave me an opportunity to combine my true passions into a career. Pediatrics and the care of children is an area of medicine that always interested me. I love helping kids and making parents feel at ease.

I treat children who have a variety of general pediatric conditions, including asthma, bronchiolitis, respiratory support, urinary tract infections, cellulitis, pneumonia, reflux, gastroenteritis, and failure to thrive. I provide pediatric consults for patients who require surgery, and also perform arterial punctures, IV placement, lumbar punctures, urethral catheterization, and nasal tube placement, among other procedures.

I treat each of my young patients with the same care that I would want my children to receive if they were hospitalized. As part of NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, my team and I ensure comprehensive, up-to-date, family-centered care where parents are always an important part of the care team.

I am involved in research that concerns how education influences cultural change, particularly regarding family involvement. I am an American Academy of Pediatrics fellow and director of inpatient pediatric services.
