Joseph A. Caruana, DO

As a dedicated family physician at NYU Langone, I believe in treating every patient like family. With over 30 years of experience serving the Dyker Heights community, I focus on preventive medicine and managing chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. My goal is to support my patients in achieving optimal health and wellbeing through personalized, compassionate care.

My extensive training and board-certification in family practice, along with my fellowship in faculty development, have equipped me with the skills to provide comprehensive care. Over the years, I have been recognized as one of New York Magazine’s “Top Doctors,” a testament to my commitment to excellence in patient care.

Throughout my career, I have held various leadership roles, including serving as the director of family practice at Victory Memorial Hospital and forming a partnership with Dr. Mario Manna. I am proud to be a part of NYU Langone Brooklyn Medical Associates-Dyker Heights, where I collaborate with a team to ensure coordinated care for my patients. My dedication to proactive healthcare engagement is reflected in my involvement with the New York State Academy of Family Physicians and my past-presidency of the Medical Society of the County of Kings.

My journey into medicine began at Creighton University, followed by my medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. My internship at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and residency at Lutheran Medical Center, where I served as chief resident laid the foundation for my career. Inspired by a deep commitment to community service, I have been actively involved with the Rotary Club of Verrazano and HeartShare Wellness, among other organizations. These experiences have shaped my holistic approach to patient care, emphasizing wellness and community engagement.
