As a dedicated gastroenterologist at NYU Langone, I am passionate about blending medicine and surgery to provide comprehensive care. My philosophy centers on proactive healthcare engagement, emphasizing the importance of patient education and empowerment. I believe in fostering strong patient–provider partnerships, ensuring people feel supported and informed throughout their healthcare journey.

With over 30 years of experience, I specialize in managing a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, particularly focusing on inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease. I have completed fellowships with both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology. Additionally, I am a member of the American Gastroenterological Association's Academy of Educators. My role as a professor of medicine since 2015 underscores my dedication to advancing the field.

Throughout my career, I have held significant leadership positions, including serving as the section chief of gastroenterology and deputy chief of staff at the Manhattan campus of the Veterans Administration Harbor Healthcare System. My work has always been driven by a commitment to improving patient care through innovative educational programs. I have developed and implemented numerous training initiatives, focusing on essential skills such as breaking bad news, informed consent, and shared decision-making.

My journey into gastroenterology was inspired by the field’s unique blend of medicine and surgery. After receiving my medical degree, I dedicated myself to serving our nation’s veterans and mentoring the next generation of physicians. My current role as chair of the Division of Gastroenterology’s Faculty Development, Mentorship, and Leadership Program allows me to continue this legacy, guiding junior and mid-career faculty and enhancing our division's educational programs. My research interests lie in medical education, and I am committed to developing innovative training programs that improve patient care and physician competency.
