Robert C. Rothberg, MD

As an emergency medicine physician at NYU Langone, I am committed to providing immediate and comprehensive care to my patients. I was born and raised in Manhattan, and this deep connection to my community fuels my dedication to service. The dynamic nature of emergency medicine inspires me, as it offers the chance to make an immediate, positive impact on patients’ lives.

My specialty lies in emergency orthopedics, a field that merges my extensive training in internal medicine and emergency medicine. With over 35 years of experience, I’ve refined my skills in managing a variety of acute conditions, ensuring that my patients receive the highest quality care. My diverse background, spanning both suburban and urban emergency care settings, has endowed me with a wide-ranging perspective and a versatile set of skills.

Over the years, I have served in several roles within the NYU Langone system. I spent 10 years in the Adult Emergency Department at Bellevue Hospital Center, followed by 12 years as the site director at the NYU Langone Emergency Department. During my tenure, I witnessed a significant increase in the department’s volume, a testament to the trust and confidence our patients have in our care. In 2010, I transitioned to the NYU Langone Orthopedic Center, where I continue to serve full-time.

My journey into medicine began at Adelphi University, where I studied chemistry and psychology. I then attended Rutgers Medical School, graduating in 1980. I completed two residencies, the first in internal medicine and the second in emergency medicine, concluding my residency training in 1985.

My decision to pursue a career in medicine was driven by a desire to make a tangible difference in patient’s lives, and I am grateful to have been able to do so at NYU Langone.
