Benjamin Brush, MD

As a neurocritical care specialist at NYU Langone, I am dedicated to providing comprehensive care to patients during their most vulnerable moments. The brain is a humbling system to study and treat, and I am driven by the challenge of addressing complex neurologic issues. Working in the NYU Langone Neurocritical Care Unit, I lead a comprehensive team to deliver advanced neurologic and medical care to our patients and their families.

I specialize in treating patients with critical conditions, including large strokes, brain bleeds, persistent seizures, spinal cord injuries, and severe autoimmune conditions affecting the brain, spine, nerves, or muscles. Additionally, I provide care for patients before and after significant neurosurgeries. My expertise ensures that patients receive the highest level of care during these critical times.

Throughout my career, I have been involved in various research projects aimed at advancing the field of neurocritical care. My prior work has included studying the basic mechanisms of brain circuits that control breathing, developing multimodal brain-machine interfaces for paralyzed patients, and conducting spinal cord injury research to restore movement. Currently, I am leveraging breakthroughs in large language models to harness new data types to ultimately develop predictive algorithms for optimizing care for patients with severe strokes.

Further, as an assistant professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, I actively teach medical students and neurology residents, and I am the associate program director for the NYU Langone Neurocritical Care Fellowship. Through these roles, I take great pride in mentoring the next generation of doctors, helping them grow into compassionate and skilled physicians.

My path to medicine was inspired by the profound impact that neurologic care can have on patients' lives. This inspiration continues to drive my commitment to both patient care and medical education.
