Research Summary

I am originally from Panama and completed my medical education at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba. Afterward, I went on to complete my residency in New York City at the Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine program at Montefiore/Albert Einstein in the Bronx. I then pursued a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical research and adult Infectious Diseases at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Most recently, I became an Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases at New York University and an attending physician at Bellevue Hospital. In addition to my clinical work, I am part of the Vaccine Center at NYU Langone and am currently a fellow in the HIV equity research fellowship. My research interests focus on access to HIV and Hepatitis C treatment for marginalized populations with substance use disorders, as well as the intersection of Community-Based Participatory Research, research-based advocacy, implementation science, and translating these efforts into policy. Given my lived experiences as an Afro-Latine physician, I am deeply committed to using medicine as a tool for advocacy, equity, and social justice.
